BIRTH DAYS

My daughter just celebrated her 11th birthday. I got a text message from a friend that morning. I expected it to be a happy birthday wish for my daughter… But instead it was a happy birth-day for me. At first I thought it was super sweet, said thank you and moved on… But as the day went on, and I sat back and spent time looking at my daughter, being nostalgic and reflecting on the years, I realized what an amazing gesture that was.

Our kids birthdays become days full of balloons and cupcakes and candles and parties… But what an amazing day to celebrate for us as mothers. On that day, however many years ago, we gave birth to a human. We carried that baby with love for 9+ months INSIDE of us. On their BIRTH DAY part of our heart left our body and became something on its own living in the outside world.

We continue to love, nurture, and watch that human grow. They will do things that we will take pride in, be frustrated with, and truly adore. That text message reminded me of one of the most incredible accomplishments of my life. Together, with my husband, we created something amazing! On that day, I birthed someone. So mamas, celebrate your birth-days! And take a second to remind all of the incredible mothers in your life how truly amazing they are on their children’s birthdays!
