Are We Having Fun Yet?!

Grow up they said - it will be fun! Get married they said - it will be fun. Have kids they said - it will be fun…. Here's my question, are we having fun yet?

Being an adult is hard! Managing the responsibilities and expectations of life is hard! Marriage is hard! Being a parent is the most rewarding thing, but it also really HARD! I recently found myself watching my kids playing in the front yard, laughing, smiling, having fun and being silly.

I was envious.

I was thinking about how wonderful it is to be a child and be carefree and have fun! I thought about my own childhood… And then I started to really think about my adult life...and then came the question, am I having fun? What do I even find fun anymore?

The fact that I couldn't answer those questions quickly and with positivism shook me to my core. I want to be and have FUN! Life is about so much more than responsibilities and expectations. I get it, those things are important… we have to do them - but life needs to be more. We have to create a place where our kids feel safe and taken care of so that they can have fun, but we need to create space/time for fun ourselves… Or we will burn out!

I'm tired. I am overwhelmed. But here is the thing…. I have decided to flip the switch and start having more fun!

I'm going to start prioritizing quiet time to breathe and refocus, and laughter with my kids. I am going to continue to nurture my marriage, by setting date nights and doing things with my partner that are fun! I'm going to start scheduling time with my girlfriends where I can laugh and let go of the guilt that motherhood brings me sometimes.

Honestly, I don't know if we are all having fun yet, but what I do know is fun looks different now at this stage in my life, and I am going to continue to focus on doing the things that I can to to make my adult life! Who is with me?
