Mindless Eating


Agh….A Self-Discovery…I Hope I Am Not Alone!

Are you a mindless eater? Or do you have some mindless eating tendencies? That's the only way I can find describe what happened to me yesterday. Filling my face without using my mind!

I usually do pretty well with my eating. I meal plan dinners, I prep healthy snacks, I have my shake every morning… And when I know I'm going to treat myself it's part of the plan, and I can enjoy it without guilt.

The weirdest thing happened yesterday and it got me to really reflect over the last week or so trying to recall if I've done it other times (and I had!!!).

My son asked me for some chips and salsa for an afterschool snack. I ended up grabbing one chip thinking that I would dip it, enjoy it, and be done with it. I picked my phone up and started scrolling through Facebook. I replied to two or three posts, answered a couple emails, looked up about 15 minutes later, and I was still eating the chips and salsa!

As I started to look back, I recalled myself doing it with goldfish earlier this week too. Without even thinking about it... an extra ton of calories, all the while not even really taking the time to enjoy the taste of the food. I guess they say the first step in solving a problem as admitting it!

This is something that I'm going to do my best to be more aware of. When I'm eating, I need to be eating. Focused on what I'm putting into my body, enjoying the hard work that I've put in to prepping and preparing it, and savoring the flavors. No more scrolling through Facebook, watching TV… No more mindless eating!

Does anybody else do this? I know I can't be alone!
